A center where everyone has access to nutritious food, services, & education. All under one roof.

We serve our neighbors in need with nutritious food, education, and community partnerships.

Serving Loudoun County since 1991.

Loudoun Hunger Relief offers access to free, nutritious foods 6 days a week and has three locations.

We share space with Loudoun Literacy Council, Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers, and Crossroads Jobs at our Leesburg location. We host distribution for the Loudoun Pet Pantry, and continue our partnership with Loudoun Education Foundation.

We partner with multiple agencies across Loudoun County, including Department of Family Services, Area Agency on Aging, Inova Health, Women Giving Back, and more!

As the population of Loudoun County has increased, the number below the poverty line has also increased and so has the number of families and individuals we help. This past year, LHR directly served more than 14,000 individuals directly. That’s 750-850 families each week through our Leesburg Market and the Mobile Markets. LHR is committed to providing the best possible services to all clients regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity (or expression), religion, national origin, age, disability or background. LHR is still a food pantry at our core. We supply perishable and non-perishable food items directly to our neighbors who need them.

More than three decades since our work began, we have a deep understanding that being short on food is a symptom of other things going wrong in people’s lives. Job loss, illness, car troubles, rising utility and rent bills–all these things force families to make difficult choices about what is the best use for their limited money.

Providing food as the anchor service of a Community Services Center allows people to get the food they need while also having easier access to other services that can help them. Some examples are literacy services, help in finding a job, aging in place services, health screenings, and eligibility checks for other benefits. The Community Services Center is able to offer all of this under one roof.

Our co-located partners share our vision of better access to services for all. Learn more about them below!

How the Charitable Food System Works in the US

A food bank stores thousands of pounds of food, including food for USDA. Our food bank is the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Food banks supply food pantries with some free donated items and also sell food to pantries at a highly discounted price. Feeding America is the national network that includes more than 200 food banks and food rescue organizations throughout the country. LHR is a partner agency with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and a Feeding America partner as well.

What We All Work Toward

Ultimately, the goal of LHR is to provide support and assistance so that families can live in our community without a need for our services. We’re constantly working to provide innovative, accessible, and sensible ways for people to get the supports they need to improve their economic stability.

Unfortunately, there are those who will always need LHR (for example, the elderly, the sick, and people with disabilities). We continue our efforts to address the hunger problems of a growing community with rapidly growing demand for services, and we’ll never stop listening to the needs of those we serve.
