On Friday, July 11, Loudoun Hunger Relief had the joy and privilege of celebrating one of our most dedicated and inspiring supporters: Rachel Roberts—known throughout the community as Leesburg’s beloved “Flower Lady.”
Surrounded by her loving family and grateful members of the LHR team, Rachel was honored at a small gathering at her home to recognize an incredible milestone. Since 2012, her roadside flower stand on Edwards Ferry Road has raised more than $200,000 to support Loudoun Hunger Relief. That grassroots generosity has helped provide over 750,000 meals to local families facing food insecurity.
To commemorate this achievement, Virginia Delegate Marty Martinez joined the celebration and presented Rachel with an official Commending Resolution from the Virginia House of Delegates. This special honor acknowledges the extraordinary impact Rachel has made through her creativity, compassion, and commitment to feeding her neighbors.
Rachel’s flower stand is more than just a charming roadside stop—it’s a symbol of what one person can do to make a real difference. In 2016, LHR created the “Shining Star Award” in her honor and named her the inaugural recipient, recognizing her as a model of entrepreneurial philanthropy.
We are endlessly grateful to Rachel and her family for over a decade of unwavering support, generosity, and love. Her work has raised not just dollars, but awareness—bringing attention to the hidden hunger in Loudoun County and showing us all the power of one person’s dedication to their community.
Thank you, Rachel. You are a true Shining Star.
